Re: breezometer AQI forecasts | pollution masks | heat/humidity/wind started 2 of 3 fires

part iv
  • i'm including you as you may come under similar smoke/wildfire threat of worldwide fire floods locus that is a growing international trend/threat in last few years and could be adversely affecting you/yours' health thus screw future plans

  • this one is slightly technical, but just roll through it, grab gems.  if you get to end, i touch on the 'wildfire is coming' messaging the gov is overtly trying to prepare us for and we should take heed, but also verify half of all they say.

summary relevant AQI & BAQI factoids
  • highs/lows of last 1.5 days (thu/fri):  SF 11-40 (94101)  |  WC 25-45  (94596)

  • highs/lows of the 1.5 days prior (wed/thu):  SF 9-38  (94101)  |  WC 11-25  (94596)
  • AQ appears to drop at sunset gradually until sunrise east of caldecott, rising a few hours later in SF-OAK
  • 40-50NOT CLEAN ENOUGH for some to perform optimally, do whatever they want outdoors incl. sport/activities.

    • this is already toxic enough and depending on who you are, breathing it could either immediately incapacitate you, make you think you caught a bug, give you the trots or a migraine, make you feel hungover, tired, faint or light-headed, give you lung/heart trouble, etc..  then again, it might not affect you at all in the short term, but mess up your long-term plans aka 'catch up to you' aka breathing polluted air is likely to screw up your health sooner or later, pay now or pay later, depending on genetics/susceptibility etc.  so even if you feel perfectly healthy, why expose risks to your long-term health or help shorten it?  get a sports mask on and set the trend!
  • under 40 LOW QUALITY UNHEALTHY aka toxic/poisonous for everyone to breathe without a respirator mask - per the BAQI intl standard.  and this is true for all animals and people and most of the plants crops livestock we feed on.

    • if you have a good carbon monoxide alert, might it be teetering on the edge, chirping!   i saw one chirp 2-3 weeks ago, wouldnt stop, had to get to sleep so pulled the battery on it, what a nuisance, put it out of mind.  a week later i started feeling passout faint while taking photos of thick pink pollution building up since the eclipse. thinking back maybe it was doing its job, so i got another one that actually tells me how many ppm it measures.
  • BreezoMeter data is accurate down to a city block level (and gets updated roughly every 15 minutes) and these pockets of pollution appear to drift around dynamically like storm clouds, so readings rise/fall throughout the day

dont trust gov raw data, verify it with international 3rd party big data (israeli corporation)
  • i anticipate the gov will give us an 'all clear to play ball' prematurely, before the BAQI clears 60 so i encourage you to use the breezometer app to double-check verify AQ to your satisfaction vs accept what news gov forecasters relay.
before you trust them when they say the air is ok to go back to your outdoor sports/activities, definitely double-check that against the breezometer international corporate 3rd party standard that double-checks all federal raw data to either verify or reject it.  i spell out why i find a 3rd party data modeling/standard far more reliable/trustworthy than any gov's raw data.

quick snapshot study of WC and SF trends
snapshots from yesterday and day prior show similar averages to today - and below i note why i prefer/rely more on the breezometer international corporate standard that cross-checks to verify or reject federal raw data, as only a 3rd party can do.

trend snapshot taken at noon 10/13/17 (actuals as of 4a on 10/12)
  • highs/lows of last 1.5 days:  SF 11-40 (94101) at 4a hovered at 11, rose at 9a to 40 before dropping to 16 at noon:
  • Inline image 4
    • CO 870.81 ppb
    • NO2 55.87 ppb
    • O3 5 ppb
    • PM10 281.2 ug/m3 Dominant
    • PM2.5 41.31 ug/m3
    • SO2 1 ppb

  • highs/lows of last 1.5 days:  WC 25-45  (94596) dipped under 30 9a-noon, and momentarily at midnight:
  • Inline image 3
    • CO 956.22 ppb
    • NO2 27.75 ppb
    • O3 3.09 ppb
    • PM10 97.83 ug/m3
    • PM2.5 64.69 ug/m3 Dominant

trend snapshot taken at noon 10/12/17 (actuals as of 4a on 10/11)
  • highs/lows of 1.5 days prior:  SF 9-38  (94101)
  • highs/lows of 1.5 days prior:  WC 11-25  (94596)

WC = 27 (dominant pollutant is PM2.5: tiny toxic particles)
forecast shows AQ drops at sunset gradually until sunrise
Inline image 1

SF-OAK = 17 (dominant pollutant is PM10: larger toxic particles)
forecast shows AQ drops at sunset gradually, rises 9-10a

the breezometer BAQI scale is a worldwide Air Quality Index based on many factors used by corporate like an intl standard as there is a great variety of "air quality languages" and each AQI, per country, is different which gets confusing for end users.  They simplified it to benefit intl corporate users, but we benefit too.

Inline image 1simple equal increments per grouping | we're in the low end of the air quality scale

  • 40-50 is moderate aka not 'clean enough' for some to be optimally healthy, do whatever they want, be active outdoors.

for scientific skeptics who trust the gov or cant get past the kid-friendly elephant meter, this is a good trust-building read:
  • this details why i much prefer and rely more on the breezometer international corporate 3rd party data modeling and standard that cross-checks every nation's federal raw data to verify or reject its accuracy as only a 3rd party can do.

compare the BAQI international standard vs the US national standard
you can see how the US gov scales are trying to downplay the scale of toxic air pollution occurring since spraying the ground and skies since the 1990s, below is the US scale which at first glance looks just as bad...

per a 200 point scale, thu/fri are forecast at 180 'unhealthy' wed was 169 'unhealthy'.
Inline image 4

looks equally bad, until you notice US created two more groups below 'unhealthy'  'very unheathy' and 'hazardous' without noting those groups are only valid after half of us die off from current levels of pollution, without noting how everyone and their mother, the runway models will all first be sporting gas masks day and night.  the scale anticipates a coming post-apocalypse.

airnow.gov extended the intl scale up to 500 which makes all this 160-180 grade pollution look 'not so risky' and 'normal, get used to it' aka 'nothing to see here'.  notice how the scale also changes from 50 increments to 100 and 200 the worse it gets.
  • Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (101 - 150)
  • Unhealthy (151 - 200)
  • Very Unhealthy (201 - 300)
  • Hazardous (301 - 500)

speaking of a coming apocalypse, this welcome splash screen when you open the CalFire app is ominous too:

makes you wonder who is running the agency and if fear-mongering is a good tactic or if they're just borderline psychopaths - maybe you have to be borderline inhuman, a yahoo psycho personality to be able and willing to be constantly overheating sweating, half suffocating in an oxygen mask at work in proximity to hot flames, breathe sulfur/toxins at night when off duty.

i still recommend installing the CalFire app to get the earliest headsup should a fire break near you at night vs get roused by sirens much later in the game with less time to gather your people and clothes you'll need to not freeze in the cold night.

you may think you're ok w/o a mask/hepa, but this is the beginning of a potential long haul 5-10 days, so like smoking super toxic cigarettes, it could catch up to you, so monitor your symptoms closely.  its safer to have a few back up filters in case the power drops.  these are a lot like oxygen masks on planes and how adults want to get ours on first before helping the kids with theirs.  if we keel over from CO1, nobody can make sure the tikes do it right.  and if you dont do it, why would they?

the breezometer AQI map at 9am showed reno in the clear at AQI=80.  8 hrs later all areas west of Kansas City were yellow!  at 2a reno was back in the green and the SF-WC corridor hovering at 35.  the updated forecast shows a drop to 0% just after 7a, a slow climb to 15% by 7p, then it drops to 0% for the night.  and such patterns could persist for 5-10 days aka the duration of the fire plus two days and the fire is 0% contained as of 4a wed.

keep loved ones and yourself playing indoors with hepa filters and masks on the ready, seems to be the advisory to share.

Inline image 2

i'm sure the hospitals across the entire state and soon west half of the usa, will be getting overwhelmed with people who need oxygen, gasping for air can't breathe, falling deathly ill.  i feel for all the young and old and those with allergies asthma and other respiratory vulnerabilities chemical sensitivities, thousands of 'canaries in a coalmine' are undoubtedly going to drop like flies with assorted ailments, from strokes, heart problems, breathing issues, migraines nausea and a dozen other things.  even the stronger of us were today sneezing/coughing/throat-clearing - some think they're just coming down with a cold.

i got gov warnings for 3 mountain areas, two of which were realized, the sole survivor is the diablo range hence another reason i've been watching waiting wondering how in hell they can predict such scenarios.  i got repeat red flag fire warnings daily for 3 weeks baffled by how explicitly the national weather service can predict these (oakland and north bay), all fast-moving raging fires that could break due to wind/heat/humidity combo, detailing very matter-of-factly how these would go down.  they noted this rare combo would occur like this:

a) 25+ mph sustained winds high in the mountains would "down powerlines" (actual winds in most areas was 10-15mph)

b) low 5-15% humidity (actual humidity was 30+ % aka not low at all)

c) high heat temperatures (actual temperatures were no higher than 80F across the bay area).

yet not one these factors were reported by any forecaster, forcing us to rationalize the likelihood of 'organized arson' aka 'eco-terrorism'.   and i'm not the only one who finds it mysterious how fires started at night approx 10p without a lightning strike or high winds or hot day with normal 30-40% humidity, yet it occurred exactly as per the alert, exactly where they said it would.

if that's not odd, on talk radio, one guy when asked 'how the fire was started' also blamed 'the wind' and 'alignment of planets'.

the most odd thing i'll tease for next email, but take a peek at these video clips and see if anything jumps out at you before i spell it out (its truly unbelievable and worth the wait):  https://photos.app.goo.gl/AIICwbLY0wima61z2

hi folks!   see the earlier thread of this email (from this morning) if this makes no sense to you... this is part ii...

i hope you kept your kids and parents inside today.   like all other news, this pollution is getting worse and forecast to get a lot worse, will plummet to 0% air quality at 2a and last all day tomorrow...  it is highly recommended by the professionals that nobody go outside today, do not engage any deep breathing activities aka no sports and avoid working outside, specially kids under 11, the elderly and genetically sensitive (like me).

have you heard everyone around you today coughing, sneezing, clearing throat, dabbing nose all day or wondering why your eyes are burning, or why you feel wiped out, weak, winded, lung pain or passout weezy/faint when getting out of a car, (like i've felt the last 7 days), its called high pollution and its been taxing me for over a week prior to this new sonoma/napa event  which is contributing an extra 15% atop a 3 week old super thick pink smog choking the bay area that i've been tracking using this software (have photos nearly daily over last 3-4 weeks of mt. diablo range 90% vanishing several days since the eclipse).

get the breezometer app on your phone:   https://breezometer.com/
its a free version of their costly business application... i strongly recommend installing it on your phone to know what's up.

to get latest map and forecast go here:  https://breezometer.com/air-quality-map/  (the green zones are ideal, red are high risk, yellow is not great either)

east bay area (better than coast and central bay area):  the last 24 hours shows how the air started dropping at 2p monday then tanked to zero at 2am which lasted until noon and its going to be much worse tomorrow (0-10% is equal to breathing pure poison (just to put it plainly) - its literally like sucking on an exhaust pipe... so seriously:  take precaution!

Inline image 1

air quality forecast (as of tue 5p):  shows air quality dropping and will plummet at 2a to dangerously low 0% quality air, risky for most of us all day tomorrow, so i suggest you  a) not let your kids play outdoors today or tomorrow or this week until it clears  b) do not open your windows for 'fresh air' and  c) run hepa filters day and night (grab a pair if you dont have any before they're all snapped up) - this is a better choice than running the a/c because few a/c systems have hepa filters in them that can filter these tiny 2.5micron particles. i have one and will run it all night.  good luck if you dont have one.

Inline image 2

if it makes you feel any better, now this cloud of smog/pollution has spread over monterey and reno and reno at 80 is down to 50 and likely to drop overnight to match the bay area, so there's no escaping this massive smog/pollution cloud, the only two things you can do: a) get anti-pollution dust masks out and get your kids a pair  b) run your hepa filters day and night

this 'wildfire' only adds 15% atop the normal bay area smog, so pollution masks are required if you work/play outside in the bay area, they're the new norm really

$10-30 Anti Pollution Mask ( Allergy / Sports / Activity / Emergency )
i recommend acquiring a fashion forward hipster pair of anti-pollution masks and filters for you and yours, that come in many colors designs and styles (its not just for asians anymore, or painballers and blackrock burners, or antifa/vendetta cells, or biker gangs - thanks to gradually deteriorating intl air quality since the 1990s, its now a necessity if you value pre-2000 air quality (don't feel right or can't perform well with lower quality air) - a great bday gift for the kids and granny!  also great for anyone who has discovered they're often tired/weak/passout dizzy on high pollution days as it is.

see battle-tested models by cambridge, vogmask and playalung
basically the burningman folks are far more prepared for apocalyptic days like this as they have all the camping/hiking gear and experience ready to rough it and survive 7 days in super hostile dust storm conditions... its straight up madmax now...

under 70% is not that good air quality generally but lower is worse and today it is 0-10 quality in SF/Oakland and 10-30 orinda to martinez to danville, san ramon and santa cruz 30s to high 40s.  all poor compared to reno at a whopping 80 today (80 rarely seen in bay area since the 90s - see below)

Why is air quality so important?
Air pollution causes 1 in 8 deaths worldwide: It is the single biggest environmental health crisis we face! The number of annual deaths caused by air pollution around the world is now greater than malaria, car accidents and HIV combined. More than 80% of people living in urban areas are exposed to air quality levels that exceed the World Health Organization (WHO) limits.

How do you define air pollution?
Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, or other harmful materials into Earth's atmosphere, causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment. Air pollution may come from anthropogenic or natural sources. (Wikipedia, 2016).According to the EPA, The Clean Air Act requires the EPA to set national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for specific pollutants to safeguard human health and the environment. These standards define the levels of air quality that the EPA determines are necessary to protect against the adverse impacts of air pollution. Based on scientific evidence. The EPA has established standards for six common air pollutants, which are referred to as "criteria" pollutants.
  1. Carbon monoxide (CO)
  2. Lead (Pb)
  3. Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
  4. Ozone (O3)
  5. Particulate matter (PM5/PM10), and
  6. Sulfur dioxide (SO2)

What can individuals do with air quality data?
Once citizens are aware and informed of the air quality they are breathing, they can limit their exposure to air pollution. A recent research study showed that BreezoMeter's app users positively changed their behavior to minimize hazardous exposure to polluted air.

What are the health effects of Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)?
Short-term exposure to SO2 is linked with respiratory effects, including difficulty breathing and increased asthma symptoms. These effects are particularly problematic for asthmatics while breathing deeply such as when exercising or playing [or feeling pass-out dizzy tired or weak just climbing stairs or working outside]. Short-term exposures to SO2 have also been connected to increased emergency department visits and hospital admissions for respiratory illnesses, particularly for at-risk populations including children, older adults and those with asthma. Contributes to particle formation with associated health effects. (EPA, 2016)

What are the health effects of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)
Short-term exposures to NO2 can aggravate respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms, hospital admissions and emergency department visits. Long-term exposures to NO2 may contribute to asthma development and potentially increase susceptibility to respiratory infections.  (EPA, 2016)

What are the health effects of Carbon Monoxide (CO)?
Breathing elevated levels of CO reduces the amount of oxygen reaching the body's organs and tissues. For those with heart disease, this can result in chest pain and other symptoms leading to hospital admissions and emergency department visits.   (EPA, 2016)

What are the health effects of Particular Matter (PM)?
Exposures to PM, particularly fine particles referred to as PM2.5, can cause harmful effects on the cardiovascular system including heart attacks and strokes. These effects can result in emergency department visits, hospitalizations and, in some cases, premature death. PM exposures are also linked to harmful respiratory effects, including asthma attacks.  (EPA, 2016)

What are the health effects of Ozone?
Ozone exposure reduces lung function and causes respiratory symptoms, such as coughing and shortness of breath. Ozone exposure also aggravates asthma and lung diseases such as emphysema leading to increased medication use, hospital admissions, and emergency department visits. Exposure to ozone may also increase the risk of premature mortality from respiratory causes. Short-term exposure to ozone is also associated with increased total non-accidental mortality, which includes deaths from respiratory causes.  (EPA, 2016)

What are the main differences and similarities between air quality and weather?
Air quality can dramatically change within a very short amount of time, or within a few kilometers, much more so than weather. This is due to a number of different factors. The main variable responsible for changes in air quality levels is human behavior: from power plants to traffic, many anthropogenic activities impact air quality. Air quality also evolves through time and space due to atmospheric conditions. Similarities with weather include the need for relevant, accurate information so that users can change their behavior based on reports and forecast. BreezoMeter is committed to provide the most accurate and impactful air quality information in the world.

How accurate is BreezoMeter? How do you measure and ensure accuracy?
BreezoMeter uses innovative air quality dispersion models, and strict accuracy analysis and validation methods to guarantee extreme precision. If a location doesn't meet our accuracy standards, we won't provide data for it.  BreezoMeter's accuracy validation is performed regularly using different sample areas. For instance, we use the "leave-one-out" cross-validation method. In this validation process, we compare the measurements taken by one of our sources ("real"), with our algorithm calculations for the same exact location, leaving the real source out ("calculated"). We then validate our accuracy through statistical analysis tests. Check this video to understand our technology in 2 minutes, or download the paper by Scientia on our technology

How does BreezoMeter know the outdoor air quality levels?
Using advanced algorithms and big data infrastructure, BreezoMeter brings air quality data out of obscurity and into the hands of users in a format as simple to access and understand as weather reports.  BreezoMeter's big data analytics determine the dispersion and flow of air pollution from a combination of layered data sets derived from governmental sensors, satellites, weather patterns, transportation dynamics, and other environmental sources. Tied together with proprietary algorithms, this combination provides users with accurate air quality data, with a precision and granularity up to a city block.
