since i was asked what tests to add on to your next round bloodwork, here is the one test re everyone's health that matters regardless of genes feet, its the test that clued me in to do more tests. if you Hcy is 'optimal' vs 'in range', you're done. this test is an indicator of various things incl. how balanced your B vitamins are.
As a general marker of overall health status, few tests carry greater predictive weight than homocysteine. The amount of homocysteine in your blood is one of the best objective indicators of how healthy you are and how long you are going to live.~Dr Ben Kim
These tests aren't done routinely, are not widely available, and their cost (about $100) may not be covered by health insurance. A normal homocysteine level is between 4.4 and 10.8 micromoles per liter of blood. It is clear now that each increase of 5µmol/L in homocysteine levelincreases the risk of coronary heart disease events by approximately 20%, independently of traditional coronary heart disease risk factors...
~Dr. WeilDr. Brady, author of The H Factor Solution, believes your Hcy level is the best indication of whether the B vitamins are doing their job as opposed to checking B12 or B6 levels for example. In his book he recommends a number of supplements that work synergistically with dosages based on Hcy values shown in the table below.
so this is the golden test #1 everybody should ask their PCP to order, if you have any recurring or chronic symptoms whatsoever incl acne/allergies/pnd or fatigue/pain or pms/moody/down, etc., if you took any rx/contraceptive/antibiotic in last 5 years, ideally we'd all take this one every couple years.
*if you're PCP/GP won't order it for you it'll cost you $99 to order online - i ordered mine through requestatest but there are others incl directlabs, walkinlabs etc - its a very easy process and MDs say its easily the best $99 you'll invest in healthcare.
step 1: test your Hcy, get your Hcy#, memorize it, then
step 2: look up Dr. Brady's chart: http://bloodposture.blogspot.com/2017/04/daily-nutrient-needs-based-on.html (which i extracted from a much longer more involved doc at http://mthfrliving.com/health- tips/supplementing-for-mthfr-b 12)
use this chart to identify which risk category you're in,
to get that guy's 'target' micro-nutrition dosage advise
re Hcy methylated complex: B2, B6, B9, B12, Zinc, Mg, and TMG
as top MDs in nutrigenomics, who have helped thousands, are advocating
step 3: find the Hcy methylated complex and supplements to hit those doses - i found 3-4 incl Homocystex. but there's no point to note any more. you can't get to this step if you have no clue what your Hcy# is. that's key #1.
wolf commentsi also pestered my PCP to order up B2, B6 in addition to B9, B12 (and B2 was off charts low) and I'm still trying for B1, B3, B5, B7 and several other tests incl. zinc copper iron and vitamin D, but Hcy is a solid indicator of a B complex imbalance, so is good initial test.
