my neurologist #2 confirms peripheral neuropathy PN, nerve damage and L side weakness.
i have compound heterozygous MTHFR, so i did a quick search to get an idea of relations.

key to addressing the root causes thus to find a practitioner who understands the genetic association, the nutrition and metabolic disorders, the role of autoimmune and chronic inflammation, like the doctors below. luckily kate in autralia at mthfrsupport.com.au fits that profile (who i last met online in october 2018) and since this is new information, my best next step is to set up an appt to update her on it all and see what new ideas that may spawn.
i'm sharing this with you as worsening symptoms drag my journey deeper into this, in part because my mother and her mother showed a lot of similar motor/coordination, balance/weakness symptoms and to inspire others to get their DNA test to confirm if you have one of the 7 MTHFR variants.
MTHFR Gene and Peripheral Neuropathy - 5m
Dr. Taylor Vanden Wynboom (probably DC)
Published on Oct 15, 2015
MTHFR Gene is probably something you have never been tested for, but could be a huge reason why you have Peripheral Neuropathy or many other diseases. The problem is that it is not easy to address, it is probably one of the most overlooked disease factors, and very few doctors (MD, DO, DC, ect) know how to properly address it. Fortunately, I have studied under Dr. Ben Lynch and have learned how to properly support the body to make up for these defective genes.

Learn why peripheral neuropathy sufferers can have hope as Dr. Taylor explains how they address the condition at his clinic.
2:00 sensation changes. fibers change from burning to tingling to numbness, or inability to determine joint position aka balance issues (weeble/wobble). often starts in foot, progresses up the calf, to knee. you cant feel your limbs when walking leading to trips/falls, thus wheelchairs.
3:15 movement difficulties. damage to motor fibers interferes with muscle control, weakness, loss of muscle bulk, dexterity. sometimes, cramps can be sign of motor nerve involvement.
3:45 all chronic health conditions have some common threads. 4:00 metabolic and neurologic imbalances are two key that need to be addressed. 4:20 hidden infections we can address metabolically and neurologic which increase signals firing to/from the brain. a lot of PN people can have chronic fatigue/lethargy and brain fog from the relentless neuro signaling. all chronic illness are a combo of both.
30% of your energy metabolized from food go to nervous system. metabolic issues can lead to PN.
6:15 I. statin drugs. inhibit formation of cholesterol which makes nerve 'sheath'. they inhibit formation of CoQ10 enzyme which is key for nerve function. statin drugs are leading cause of PN.
7:20 statins increase PN risk by 1600%. 7:50 is cholesterol the enemy?
Is the drug amlodipine a statin?Caduet (amlodipine besylate and atorvastatin calcium) is a combination of a calcium channel blocker and a statin drug used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina) that occurs with high cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
Common Side Effects of Caduet (Amlodipine Besylate, Atorvastatin ...

take home: cholesterol wont clog arteries unless you're inflamed.
9:15 common trait lower back damage, spinal compression causes pressure on nerves to feet.
9:45 III. insulin resistance.
10:15 IV. chronic inflammation. inflammatory foods so we use a paleo-type autoimmune/anti-inflammatory diet.
12:10 functional lab tests.
13:20 when you cant feel your feet, what happens to brain? if you pinch nerve, your brain starts to scar. what does a neuron/nerve need to repair? optimal fuel, energy, glucose, oxygen, good neurotransmitters, activation.
14:35 activation.
HAKO MED horizontal micro-current therapy. great for PN. stimulates cns. its the best. different from TENS. i learned about it in 'super metabolic group'.
16:35 cold laser therapy. using spec wavelength of coherent light...
17:15 PNRT PN rehab therapy, FAR infrared heat, vibration for feet.
17:45 rebuilder therapy takehome kit.
Neuropathy Causes - 12m

Announcement: As of February 19, 2019, Dr. Roney will be practicing at "The Center for New Medicine" in Irvine, Ca. It is a state of the art wellness facility greatly equipped with many of the natural modalities proven to help with neuropathy, and other chronic diseases. These include hyperbaric chamber therapy, class IV laser/light therapy, ozone therapy, iv therapy, and many more. These modalities are helpful for symptom relief as needed, but addressing the true causes is the key.
I've reviewed this list below. If you would like make an appointment, please call (949) 680-1880. I can also work with you if you are from a long distance, especially if your causes are mostly metabolic. We can achieve this via internet, Skype, etc. We can review paperwork, provide lab requisition forms, and then provide detailed protocols needed to help increase oxygen, increase blood flow, increase energy within the cell, and decrease inflammation.
These protocols may include gut healing, liver detox, addressing anemia, stabilizing blood sugar, reducing inflammation/addressing potential autoimmune disease, addressing methylation issues, identifying and removing toxins/infections, addressing thyroid malfunction, hormone imbalance, etc.
A lot can be done if you know where to look. It simply depends on what we can find causing your neuropathy. Remember, focus on the cause(s) as the neurpaothy is a byproduct of these causes.

1:30 4 underlying causes: a) lack of oxygen to nerve cells c) lack of energy production to nerve cells d) chronic inflammation. 2:10 if you have those 4 or even 1 of those, those nerve cells dont have a chance, get damaged and are dying faster than they get replaced. 3:15 a) anemia b) insulin resistance c) lack proper blood flow to tiny peripheral branches. 6:45 make sure there's no anemia, insulin issue, no autoimmune condition, no brain imbalance, no chronic infection. 7:35 lot of clinics do modality type work which wont solve problem long-term. the root causes must be addressed. re brain imbalances: if you aren't getting signals right daily, your cerebellum weakens which leads to balance/coordination issues. you need a physician who addresses all of these.

1:25 PN is common chronic disease affects 20M americans. electric wiring is breaking down. feet/hands can't comm with the brain. brain cant comm with feet/hands.
128 tuning fork shoulder thumb big toe, many feel nothing on big toe. leading cause of death in elderly are falls and when you cant feel your feet you will fall.
PN = abnormal nerves at ends of body. many sensations incl. restless leg syndrome.
nerve types: sensory, motor, autonomic.
3:50 damage to sensory fibers results in change in sensations, nerve pain, burning, cold, tingling, numbness, balance/coordination issue. inability to know joint position, and if true for your feet/toes will cause balance issues. not good if the cerebellum doesnt get the data from the toes/feet. loss of muscle bulk and dexterity.
4:45 movement difficulties. interferes with muscle control, can cause weakness, loss of muscle bulk, loss dexterity, often cramps are sign of motor nerve fibers involvement.
5:30 fuel is glucose and oxygen. mess around with those and that's not good.
6:00 chronic inflammation. how do you know? check bloodwork: crp, homocystine, uric acid, hormone levels. if you dont get rid of inflammation you won't get better.
6:45 sometimes PN involves auto-immune system attacking the nerves.
7:10 medication side effects: statin cascade.
9:10 there are MDs out there who want statins in the drinking water!
10:00 leading causes incl foods like gluten/dairy/soy, and chemotherapy.
12:40 why do same # people with low cholesterol die from heart attacks as high cholesterol?
13:50 spinal decompression. traction.
15:15 chronic inflammation is key to get rid of NP, you'll need a paleo type diet no sugar no alcohol gluten dairy soy for at least 6 months. meat fish veggies fruit nuts seeds.
16:20 look at optimal bloodwork ranges.
18:00 you're told your labs are normal, yet you have these issues.
18:30 ideal blood glucose is 85-99 for PN sufferers.

20:00 to heal/repair, you need glucose/oxygen, no inflammation, lots of activation.
26:36 MTHFR gene can lead to PN
28:00 how bad is your PN? PN toronto scoring. normal = 74, most under 10, no feeling in feet.
31:30 commitment. $100-300/mo. how is this impacting your life/style? relationships?
