Unhealthy Air 'Poison Gas' + Fire Risk + Power Outages + UV + Heat + GoBag/Evac Routine

as i was writing this, dad experienced a 2hr blackout, what a coincidence and that's what i'm talking about...

  • air quality alert issued sun 2p by the state authority for sun, mon, adding tue and wed (the first 4 'bad air' alerts of summer season)
    • accurately predicting how smoke from a fire that would not start until 8p (6 hours later) i.e. the 'sand fire' in yolo county would push smoke into bay area - great foresight in forecasting or just amazing coincidence.
    • air quality clue:  roadkill everywhere last 3 days incl house cats
  • breezometer did a rare app update and is now even more functional, reports both BAQI and fed AQI, shows you at a glance if they forecast it getting worse or better in next 1-2 hours and can notify you in real-time when it does, it helps you plan routes to bike/jog or pick best parks to play in, has fancy features for smart cars/homes.  it was good, now its badass, sent them a cover letter:
    • the new breezometer 'real-time air quality analytics' promo video:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On21zfxA6vA
    • it sounds like they developed my enhancement ideas to give users more actionable info vs a near meaningless 'moderate' label.
  • max pollen also forecast/actualized and ongoing
  • UV extreme:  any part of body not covered will burn (ex elbows) as of two weeks ago; use non-nano sunscreen (nano particulates, in most lotions, are so tiny they go straight to the brain and the body aint designed to excrete nano toxins)
  • heat wave:  100-105F as threat of PGE cutting power for days looms.
    • beware:  if you use a ceiling fan to cool home, at night, it draws in outside air, which you dont want to do when super polluted, so i woke tue with headache (and i'm in the hills, not in valley urban/traffic areas where pollution tends to be 10-15% more dense)
  • high fire risk (same as PSPS power shutdown criteria):
    • 25mph+ sustained winds with 40mph gusts
    • less than 20% humidity
    • they want us to clear trees up to 100ft from home (which incidentally has the added 'dual benefit' from the vantage of the utilties of posing minimum interference with IoT 5G millimeter wave signals potentially harmful to optmium DNA cellular health aka trees are proven RF shields, so how else will they get rid of trees protecting your bedroom but to claim they pose a fire risk when evidence clearly shows trees around homes tend to remain mosstly intact while the homes are pulverized to fine-powder and molten metal).

  • seismic:  during 30yr solar minima cooling phases, like we're in, significant volcanic/tectonic events are forecast by scientists who track/study such.  have shoes in gobag, rehearse exit routines.
  • rebuilding:  forget trying to rebuild after a fire on the same lot (agenda21 zoning ordinances, endless fines and fees will force smart folk to cash out and migrate, asap, before owing anything or hitting head against wall too many times).  if you lose your house, packup and head out, dont look back.  most who try to rebuild on same lot are getting railroaded, taken to the cleaners.  forget all that extra insurance, a power outage survival plan is far more prudent and pressing and likely to be put into use more than once.
  • GoBag:
    • each person needs a gobag/bugout bag and in it you'll want n99 masks, water filtration canisters so you can make any water you find potable, first aid kit, flashlight, ponchos, aluminum blankets, cold weather smartwool socks hats and long johns, debris field shoes, protein bars, beef jerky sticks, and bugout cash.
    • if you rely on vitamins/rx, have 5 days worth ready packed.
  • Evac Routine:
    • fuel in your escape pod; make sure car has half a tank every night
    • have 3 exit routes practiced as often 2 of them tend to get blocked
    • have a place outside the area even kids can call or send an online post to should you get separated in the chaos to escape.
  • power outage:  while they might prime us now with short 3hr and 1day outages, imagine you dont have a backup generator and the power goes down for 5-10 days (at the onset of a coldsnap or heatwave), how will you cook food or power your tv/radio/laptops/phones?  how will you not roast in a sauna or freeze in an icebox?
    • good luck if you have special medical needs/equipment or refrigeration needs and don't have a generator ready to go.
    • the northeast 2day blackout of 2003 put 50 million offline.
    • areas not in flagged high risk zones will also frequently experience spotty 3-hour business-closing outages:
Power outages darken Bay Area cities during heat's height  (walnut creek, concord, lafayette, fremont, benicia, palo alto) https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/06/10/widespread-outage-cuts-lafayette-power-during-heats-height/
    • recurring for years now this adds another 'surprise' hurdle to the mix (like the brownouts of past years, and while it happens frequently, they seem unable to mitigate the problem):
Power restored to nearly 20,000 in Concord; rain 'likely a factor' in outage [there was no 'heavy wind or rain' but the fake news didn't note that detail or question it - too busy being busy]  https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/11/21/power-outages-in-concord-keeps-nearly-20000-in-dark/
  • PSPS Public Safety Power Shutoff is what PGE calls it, for more info:  prepareforpowerdown.com
  • PGE Emergency Preparedness Plan
    • Do you have a personal safety plan for all members of your family, including pets? Have you practiced it?
    • Do you have multiple evacuation routes planned?
    • If you own a generator, is it ready to operate safely?
    • Do you know how to open your garage door manually?
    • Do you have cash on hand and a full tank of gas, in the event ATMs and gas stations are unavailable?
    • Are your mobile phones fully charged and/or backup batteries available?
What can I do to prepare for a Public Safety Power Shutoff?
    • Plan for any medical needs like medications that need to be refrigerated or devices that require power.
    • Build or restock your emergency supply kit, including food, water, flashlights, a radio, fresh batteries, first aid supplies and cash.

good luck till the end of year to all fire hazard areas incl western usa/canada, specially nocal with all this extra fire fuel the rains brought, much like the 2016-17 season gave nocal 144% normal precipitation ending the drought 5 months before the wine country infernos of oct. 2017:
  • rain indeed fuels hot fire; by growing taller denser grass that turns to triple the volume of dry fuel after 60+ days of hot sun.
