Neuropathy: The Impaired Methylation Caveat: There Are Two Types Of B12 Deficiencies

  • the only thing missing from many posts is that some folks, like me, may test normal for B12, but have one of 7 MTHFr gene mutations that impair methylation thus can't convert B12 and assorted other Bs into 'active forms' to use for key essential functions thus need to supplement with methylated forms (pre-digested so-to-speak). 
  • so there's a B12 deficiency and a methyl B12 deficiency, totally separate.  and the only way to know if you have a methyl B12 deficiency is to triangulate onto it using other biomarkers.
